The unlikeliest little hero

Who came through when we needed a car to get through windmageddon on the 15th?

Wiggles did, that's who.

Yep, that's right, my crappy old 31 year old beater proved to be the only car in my family that worked after the third worst windstorm in Northwest history. Mrs. Switzer called me, after many attempts (cell coverage was, to be generous, spotty on Friday, and remains troublesome), and told me our good car was out of gas. Unfortunately, because of the crap cell coverage, I didn't get any idea where she was or when the call came in - so all I knew was my wife was out of gas, somewhere.

This piece of information reached me at 9:45am - I started trying to call her back right away, but to no avail. On the rare occasions I could get a call through, it went straight to voicemail - not that she was getting those messages. I finally managed to get through all the 'how-do-we-drive-when-the-power's-out' traffic and get to my office, where I found refugee camps clustered around pockets of electricity. I kept calling and trying to locate Mrs. S until about noon, when I decided I was getting worried about the lass. This is when Wiggles proved his worth.

I drove all over the Eastside from noon until 5:30 looking for Mrs. S., in some truly brutal traffic - brutal traffic caused by a weather calamity for the third time in six weeks. WTF???

As for Mrs. S...she was waiting patiently at home, unaware she was missing. What are ya gonna do? Turns out she called me from Issaquah, realized there was no way I could find her, and decided she had just enough gas to get back home, which she promptly did. She spent the day reading and snoozing, waiting for me to com ehome or the lights to come on. Now we're on day three without power, and I see another one or two ahead of us, and since there's no functioning gas station within reach of our good car, Wiggles has been our only transportation.

So thank you, Wiggles, and Happy Holidays to you.
