On thumbs and stalker readers

So, first things first. To the one of my six daily readers, thanks for informing the parental switzerunits about my thumb before I had a chance to. Jeesh, I was gonna send an email, but I've put it off because WRITING IS HARD NOW. What.ever.

So, to recap: apparently forgetting my proximity to 40 years on earth, I decided to toss the football around at work. I pulled a T.O. and broke a bone in my right thumb (and I'm right-handed, hooray!). The piece of bone that broke loose is less than an 1/8th inch around, but unfortunately is the anchor location for a ligament. So I get to wear a spica cast for a few weeks. If the bone doesn't heal right, I get surgery - they would remove the loose piece (as it's too small to pin), and reattach the ligament to the remaining bone.

All this for a piece of bone smaller than a crumb from the chicken strips I had for lunch!

Anyhoo, here's the cast progression:
soft cast first
and now the orange hard cast!

Now everyone's caught up to my misery and can just get right off my back. As for ongoing problems:

* Shaving and brushing teeth is still very difficult
* I'm learning to write with my left hand, as I can't grasp pens. (irrelevant - it's retarded chicken scratch no matter which hand I use)
* I occasionally reach for things and spend the next couple hours enjoying cramps in the affected thumb - this is diminishing, but I'm having shooting pains tonight as a reward for learning what lifts I can do at the gym (less than I thought)
* I eat with my left hand now - it's amazing how useless my left hand is!

What a pain. So, that's the news about switzer's hand. Hopefully the next update will be after it's all healthy again and typing is less laborious. Now, back to political blogging...
